YPT's 2017 Giving Voice Award Gala

Announcing YPT's 2017 Giving Voice Award Gala!

Saturday, March 18, 2017
The Josephine Butler Parks Center
Honoring Branden Jacobs-Jenkins, Playwright, An Octoroon

Since 2013, YPT's Giving Voice Award Gala has delighted attendees with our signature brand of eclectic elegance. From culinary tours of DC to a Back to the Future-themed 20th anniversary celebration, YPT galas celebrate our students and community, while raising funds to bring free arts education programming to students across the DMV!

We are delighted to honor playwright Branden Jacobs-Jenkins with our 2017 Giving Voice Award. A DC native, 2014 Obie Award winner and 2016 MacArthur Genius Grant recipient, Jacobs-Jenkins is best known for his play, An Octoroon, which ran at Woolly Mammoth Theatre Co. in 2016 to critical and audience acclaim. His plays engage frankly with issues of race, class and identity - the same issues that many YPT students grapple with in their own work.

In addition, we will present our first ever Visionary Leader Award to former Secretary of Education John B. King. Secretary King is a former member of the Obama administration, serving as the Secretary of Education from 2016 to 2017. Secretary King has been a champion of closing the achievement gap in the education system, working relentlessly in his career for students across the country, and we are thrilled to honor his achievements.

We can't wait to honor Branden Jacobs-Jenkins and Secretary John B. King, and celebrate our students at our fifth annual gala, held this year in our beloved home, the Josephine Butler Parks CenterThis historic mansion is one of DC's premiere event destinations, and houses ten nonprofits and businesses, including YPT! We can't wait to welcome the YPT family to the beautiful building we call home.

Join us on Saturday, March 18, as we toast to 22 years of young voices! Buy your tickets today!
