YPT at 25! Events in 2019-2020!
Silence is Violence 2020
In YPT’s 25th Anniversary season, YPT commemorates five years of its Silence is Violence social justice performance series with an immersive, interactive, dramatic experience derived from short plays, vignettes, monologues and spoken word poetry written by DC-area youth and local artists over the past five years. YPT revisits the social issues its students have addressed such as police brutality, gentrification, immigration, coming of age and LGBTQ identity by investigating Americanism and its effect on our youth today.
*As of March 16, 2020, Young Playwrights' Theater has made the difficult decision to postpone our performances of Silence is Violence, scheduled for April 9 through May 2. Learn more about YPT's commitment to community health and safety here.*

Play in Development: Rewrite by Tyrese Rowe
Rewrite (formerly No Hood Story) captures the inner world and outer life challenges of a young man coming of age in Washington, DC. Since summer 2019, Duke Ellington School of the Arts alumnus Tyrese Rowe has been crafting this memoir piece with the guidance of YPT Artistic Director Farah Lawal Harris. This fall, Tyrese's play was presented in a public reading in which audience members got to meet the playwright and offer feedback!
Workshop Reading at the 18th Annual Page-to-Stage New Play Festival
In YPT’s second year at the Annual Page-to-Stage Festival presented by the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, YPT presents the first public reading of Rewrite (formerly No Hood Story)!
