A young, Black writer tries to rewrite his past, but at what cost?
Lawrence seeks to escape family pain and hardship and start fresh with his new love, Jasmin. But when past trauma begins to manifest itself and his romance with Jasmin fades, Lawrence must finally confront the issues that have been plaguing his relationship with his family head-on to discover the peace, love and fulfillment he so desperately craves.
The full performance of REWRITE in April of 2020 is the culmination of a months-long new play development process facilitated by YPT Artistic Director Farah Lawal Harris, which included biweekly one-on-one dramaturgy sessions with the playwright, public workshop readings of play drafts and carefully curated theater experiences for the playwright to aid his writing process and fuel his inspirations.
REWRITE is the 2nd student-written play to be produced by Young Playwrights' Theater and the first full-length play produced by YPT to be eligible for the Helen Hayes Awards with 18 public performances in April 2020.
