Groban’s Find Your Light Foundation to Recognize Young Playwrights’ Theater

WASHINGTON, DC – On July 27, 2011, multi-platinum singer-songwriter Josh Groban will present Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) with a donation from Groban’s new Find Your Light Foundation, which is dedicated to enriching the lives of young people through arts, education, and cultural awareness.

Groban will recognize YPT and their work from the stage at the VerizonCenter as part of his “Straight To You” tour. A group of YPT students and staff will meet Groban prior to the performance and watch as he speaks about the organization from the stage.

"Ensuring every child has the opportunity to experience an arts education is very important to me," said Groban. "Young Playwrights’ Theater shares this goal with me, and it gives me great pleasure to highlight the work they do."

YPT served more than 1,200 students throughout the Greater Washington area this year. The students attending this performance on behalf of YPT are alumni of the In-School Playwriting Program and the Young Playwrights’ Workshop, YPT’s award-winning student theater ensemble. All students have had their plays professionally produced by YPT, including the Young Playwrights’ Workshop’s original piece, Out of the Shadow, the only student work at this year’s Capital Fringe Festival. Out of the Shadow can be seen on Saturday, July 23, at 12pm, at the Baldacchino Tent of FortFringe.

“Our students have seen the transformative impact of arts education first-hand through our programming,” says YPT’s Producing Artistic Director and CEO David Snider. “We are grateful to Josh and the Find Your Light Foundation for showing our students that their voices matter.”
