Development Assistant
Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) seeks a part-time Development Assistant to assist with development, community engagement (including social networking), production and programming. Position will include an emphasis on administrative support for grant applications, social networking implementation, production support and communications with program participants. Contracted position, approximately 34 hours per week (dependent on workload) preferred but negotiable, $18 per hour. Position to be filled as soon as possible and run through June 2011, with potential for extension. Excellent verbal and written communication skills and attention to detail required, with some experience working with online databases, social networking sites and grant applications preferred. B.A. or equivalent required; background in theatre (especially stage management) and arts education preferred. Community Engagement Associate
Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) seeks a hardworking, innovative artist administrator with a strong background in arts education and/or theater to join a five person team dedicated to helping students express themselves and engage the world around them through the art of playwriting. Working closely with YPT’s associate artistic director and outreach manager, the Community Engagement Associate will enhance the company’s connection to, investment in, and response from the community through marketing and audience development initiatives and strategic partnerships, developed in conjunction with programming, production and donor development efforts. By developing opportunities for volunteerism, the CEA will create ways for individuals and organizations to connect with YPT via specific programs and projects. Through a variety of marketing tools, including website, e-newsletters, video and print materials, she/he will communicate the importance of YPT to the community and engage community members with YPT events and programs. In addition, the CEA will teach in YPT programs and contribute to the overall artistic work of the company, dependent on interest and background; the CEA also will provide some administrative support for the associate artistic director, outreach manager and CEO. Interest and experience with new media in general is crucial, as is experience teaching in the classroom, with a background in graphic design, video editing and social media a plus. 2-5 years working for a non-profit required; B.A. or B.F.A. required; M.F.A. preferred. Spanish-Speaking Teaching Artist
Young Playwrights’ Theater (YPT) seeks a Teaching Artist fluent in Spanish for YPT’s In-School Playwriting Program. The In-School Playwriting Program is a twelve week residency guiding students through the process of writing an original play. The Teaching Artist would be responsible for administering YPT’s In-School program to a small classroom of English language learners in Arlington, VA. (Additional residencies in the DC metro area will be offered based on experience and performance.) Teaching Artist is responsible for all transportation to and from classrooms. YPT Internships
YPT offers professional internships in Arts Administration and Arts Education throughout the year. Available in semester, year-long, or summer units, YPT’s internships provide participants with an education in nonprofit management, administration, and arts education. Interns are treated as temporary staff members and are contracted for approximately 10 to 30 hours per week, depending on a candidate’s availability, in exchange for either course credit or a small stipend. Working with YPT is a great way to learn about all aspects of running a small nonprofit theater or to gain hands-on experience in arts education. No housing or transportation is provided.
